Narwhal builds the world's first carbon fiber truck topper — the strongest and lightest on the market, outperforming traditional materials like aluminum, steel, or fiberglass. Narwhal features industry-first options, including a removable rear panel and a turret hatch.
There are many scenarios—whether loading bikes over the tailgate or items longer than your truck bed—where you want to keep the tailgate up and load items. Usually, a topper makes this difficult and causes the rear access panel to flap in the wind. That’s why we created a removable rear panel with a hinge mechanism that allows quick removal by disconnecting two bolts and the strut attachment.
The Turret Hatch is a Narwhal Topper feature that lets users remove the optional roof panel. This enables customers to stand in the bed and use the roof as an elevated workspace for any task you can imagine. Think photography gear, spotting scopes, hunting—the possibilities are only limited by your imagination.
Carbon fiber provides an exceptional strength-to-weight ratio, resists corrosion, and performs well under extreme conditions, making it perfect for off-road adventures, tough work environments, and everyday use.
In the US, the terms topper and cap are commonly used to describe a hard-shell cover for a pickup truck bed. A Canopy is a term frequently used in South Africa and Australia; however, it refers to the same thing. A Camper shell is usually a full camper with an integrated sleeping system built into the unit.
Yes. The Narwhal shell is designed and built with weather-tight seals and materials that resist rain, dust, snow, and extreme temperatures. However, we cannot guarantee the watertightness of your truck’s actual bed. Some manufacturers leave gaps where water can enter from below the truck.
Final weights vary by truck model and options. Narwhal toppers weigh 100–160 lbs depending on configuration — lighter than competitors made of aluminum, steel, and fiberglass. It is the lightest hardshell topper on the market.
The Narwhal MK1 comes in two configurations being named Carbon and Recon.
The Narwhal 'Carbon' base configuration comes with all panels being standard carbon fiber. This is our lightest and cheapest option for people who want a secure and high-speed option with minimal impact on their truck's payload capacity.
The Narwhal Recon is for folks who want windowed, rear-view capabilities on their topper. Recon's can also be customized with side panel privacy glass that has a slider for companions in the bed.
Payload matters. Every truck has a safe payload limit, which is the maximum weight the manufacturer recommends the truck support in the bed and cabin while still meeting safety and performance standards. The more equipment and people you carry, the less payload capacity remains. Our goal is to provide a topper that supports various uses and helps you conserve your payload for tools and gear needed for your specific activities, whether off-roading, the jobsite, or recreational pursuits.
No. At roughly 100 lbs, the Narwhal has little impact on truck sag. Traditional toppers weighing 250–350 lbs often cause significant rear-end sag — affecting factory rake, handling, and safety. Adding permanent weight to your bed can also require suspension upgrades costing thousands. Narwhal is engineered to preserve your truck's stock geometry.

Every Narwhal topper will come standard with L-track on both the external and internal sections of the roof. This allows customers to get creative when developing attachment methods for accessories tailored to their specific needs.
Absolutely. The carbon fiber structure is designed to handle high static and dynamic roof loads, making it great for RTTs, recovery gear, and adventure setups.

Yes. The Narwhal topper is designed for DIY installation using standard hand tools and a torque wrench. At approximately 100 lbs, two adults can lift and position the topper for installation. Video installation instructions will soon be available, and our customer service team is happy to assist with any questions.
Our authorized Partner network is being built out to serve customers who prefer professional installation. We'll update the site with certified Partner locations as the network expands. Once your topper is scheduled for production, we'll reach out to coordinate shipping and installation details.
Only if the other truck has the same bed size and model generation. Carbon fiber construction ensures durability, but fit is crucial. Example: A Narwhal Topper may fit multiple generations of F150; however, our mounting systems are designed to work with the specific generation of trucks' tie-down points. So, depending on which generation of truck you initially order, the mounting brackets will fit that truck. We will provide additional mounting brackets on a case-by-case basis as they become available.

We will either ship direct to consumer for self-install or ship to an installer location that we're currently building out and will keep our customers updated with.
Once your Topper is scheduled for Production we'll reach out to coordinate final location and installation avenues.
We are charging a shipping fee based on shipping zones. Toppers will be shipping from our location in California. Yes. The install involves precision fitment and full wiring integration. Narwhal installers are trained on exactly this — most buyers choose certified install for that reason.
DIY install is warranty-safe only when done strictly per Narwhal install documentation.
Tell us your state. If we have a Narwhal-certified dealer there, we coordinate the handoff. If we don't, we find and qualify one before your build ships.
The Narwhal-certified dealer handles install. Narwhal coordinates the handoff, sends the dealer your build spec and wiring brief, and stays in the loop until you pick up.
Install is billed directly by the dealer, not by Narwhal.

We recommend washing it with automotive-safe soap, avoiding harsh chemicals or abrasive brushes, and using care around seals, hardware, and mounting points when pressure washing.
For added long-term protection, we recommend applying a ceramic coating after delivery to help preserve the finish and make cleaning easier over time. For high-wear areas, paint protection film is also a good option if you want an added layer of protection against abrasion, trail debris, and repeated contact points.
A detailed care and maintenance guide is available on our website with best practices for protecting your Narwhal.
Narwhal toppers are built from structural carbon fiber and finished with a professional automotive-grade clear coat to protect against UV exposure, weather, and daily use. This gives the exterior a durability standard similar to OEM-level automotive paint while preserving the strength, weight savings, and premium finish of carbon fiber over time.

Possibly. Narwhal operates a selective dealer network — limited number of dealers per market, signed agreements, real margin, MAP enforcement.
If you run a truck-focused retail or install shop with the capacity to represent a $6K–$10K premium product, see the dealer program page for criteria and an application.
Certification is for shops in the dealer program — it's not a standalone certification track for installers outside the dealer network.
If your shop wants to install Narwhal, apply to the dealer program first. Once approved, lead-installer certification is included in the onboarding sequence.
